At any moment, you can have an epiphany and be overcome with wonder, how it all interacts, the little things, the moments of frustration and the deep joy. At Las Vegas Dermatology Foundation’s Derm Grand Rounds 4/11/2026, my Keynote address, was about how “Everything is Everything”, and each day I’m reminded about how everything we do matters. I flew to Colorado for my parents, accompanying them to London for my Niece’s Bat Mitzvah. My Niece delivered a speech accepting her adult role in our community and vowing to make us all proud- quite profound for a 12-year-old woman child. Her friends and our family danced, dined, mingled and shared in this special occasion, everyone was proud of her, especially my brother. Everything we do matters to someone- parents, grandparents, community and ourselves, even more so when we are responsible for our decisions. Throughout the trip my octogenarian parents relied on us to get around, coordinate meals, transport and entertain; what my brother and I take for granted matters very much to our folks. Everything we do for them, means everything to them, it’s a tremendous blessing and responsibility.
Hollywood Hino took 30 years to learn fighting (Team USA Boxing, Professional Boxing and fellow AKA Thailand Muay Thai Alum), Hino recently teased me post laser tattoo removal that I only went to school for 11 years after college and his training took longer. Although my formal medical encompassed those 11 years after college, that doesn’t include continuing education, articles I’ve written, students taught, talks given or the tens of thousands of patients seen in the interim honing my skills. Like Hino, I’ve been at this for over 30 years, considering the required education prior to medical school- all necessary to allow me to be at the top of game today. When patients ask, “How long have you been practicing?” I reply, “I practiced from 2006-2016, and now I do it for real, I’m no longer practicing.” The work means something, especially when confronting a challenging case- context, experience and knowledge allow for the correct medical decision, which is ultimately impactful to those I treat.
After my 10th trip to AKA Thailand, I flew through Seoul, Korea, spending time with my Korean friends- plastic surgeon Dr. Hyemi and Julie Park, founder @inyunconcierge at the ExoCoBio world headquarters. We learned how Benev/ ExoCoBio make their exosomes, in a proper facility, with a mass spectrometer ensuring product quality- we use their exosomes for post-ablative aftercare treatments at Las Vegas Dermatology®. I spoke about my Korea experience with a Vegas Cosmetic Surgery Talk on 5/28/2026- contrasting it with time spent in the Chiang Mai Night Market where a topical balm was offered at an obscure stall as a psoriasis cure. Although neither product is FDA Approved, Benev Exosomes are FDA Cleared and have well over 80 clinical research papers, patents and quality control behind them, whereas the night market cream had good marketing, but no clinical trials data. While picking up my parents in Colorado Springs for the Bat Mitzvah, I ran into my friend’s wife and asked how she was doing after his passing a mere 7 months ago, she responded, “…it feels like it happened yesterday, then 10 years ago or like it never happened at all”. There’s an emptiness with his absence that will never be filled for both of us. Each of us is on our own journey, living lives that bring us together for some reason, and on a deeper level, in ways we may never fully appreciate. Our impact can be positive, negative or nothing at all. I am privileged to encounter people at the Las Vegas Dermatology® clinic every day, in their times of need and to have a series of tools at my disposal to affect change and improve their situation. It’s hard sometimes to know exactly what is needed in any situation, but doing the right thing is an excellent start and “Forward is Forward”; you must keep going. A healthy person worries about everything, and a sick person worries only about one thing- to both “Everything is Everything”.
