As I navigate Ikigai– the Japanese philosophy of finding your reason for being, admist the real world pressures of life, I am seeking to connect Ikigai with personal goals, and a mantra that haunts me, “How you do one thing is how you do Everything.”  Mike Tyson’s take on overcoming difficult tasks remains blunt, poignant and top of mind, “Do what you hate, but do it like you love it.”  In other words, you will not enjoy all of the tasks along the way, but if you put in the work and effort, you can achieve your life goals and find your Ikigai.  My next-door neighbor growing up had been a test pilot for the Air Force, but studied Geology, learned how to Scuba Dive and test drove a 4 wheeler over mountainous terrain for countless hours before achieving his goal of walking on the moon.  Jim Irwin was the 8th man on the moon and first to use the lunar rover Falcon- his mission identified geological moon structures, and because of his extensive training in things that he may not initially have been all that interested in, he was able to accomplish his life mission as only 1 of 12 people ever to walk on the moon.  To find your Ikigai point in life, you will have to do many things you don’t want to do, but living your dream makes everything else more palatable.

In July we had a Dermatology Grand Rounds event at the Las Vegas Dermatology® clinic with 15 interesting patient cases, 30 providers and 10 presenters.  Funds were raised for the Las Vegas Dermatology Foundation, through the support of our Pharmaceutical Company partners who had display booths and educated us about the latest medical treatments in the Dermatology space.  Our tax deductible 501c3 charity is using the funds we collected to support those interested in Dermatology careers, offering treatments for skin disease and sponsoring lectures and community events.  We could use your financial support- send checks to the office or donate via Paypal.
