Skin types change as we age. What was great for your skin in your 20’s is no longer going to “do the trick” in your 40’s. We’ve compiled an age matched skincare guide to lead you from what to expect, to how to manage your skin through every stage in life.
20’s – This time in life is all about prevention and creating good skincare habits. Keep a look out for adult acne and melasma brought on by hormones. Get started on a great at home skincare regimen of cleansing twice daily with a foaming cleanser containing salicylic acid to break down oils on the skin’s surface, a lightweight moisturizer, and SPF daily.
Treatments such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels are ideal.
30’s – Skin starts to dry out a bit, hyperpigmentation or “sun spots” become more noticeable, fine lines, and dark circles around the eyes begin to emerge. Counter, with a Vitamin C serum under SPF during the day along with a retinol and night cream before bed.
Now is the time to start Botox® or Dysport® injections.
40’s – Loss of elasticity occurs, along with wrinkles, larger pores, and hyperpigmentation. Make sure you’re using a hydrating cleanser twice daily, along with anti-aging serums, Retin-A, and AHA products to stimulate collagen and exfoliate the skin.
Think laser treatments for skin tightening, broken facial capillaries, and hyperpigmentation.
50’s – Further loss of collagen and elastin, you may notice smile lines and looser skin, along with redness and blotchiness. Vitamin C +E serum or redness reduction cream under SPF daytime, and increase Retin-A usage to every other night, also look for products with a 10-15% glycolic acid such as creams and cleansers.
Dermal fillers bring fullness and volume back to the skin, for a more youthful look.
60’s – Skin concerns are happening at a faster rate now, pre-cancerous cells and skin cancer are more likely to arise, along with a loss of volume in the lips. Use a human growth factor serum under SPF daytime, and Retin-A every night along with an ultra rich moisturizing cream.
Try Dermapen microneedling and laser resurfacing treatments with a CO2 laser. Yearly skin cancer screenings are increasingly important.
70’s & beyond – Don’t give up, 70 is the new 40 hydrate, moisturize, anti age, and avoid the sun. Partner with LV Derm to help you look your best.
