Aesthetic News from LV Derm:

In observance of Rosacea Awareness Month,
Las Vegas Dermatology would like to share the
“do’s and don’ts” for getting the red out:

Do: Wear sunscreen!   The sun can trigger heat and inflammation in the skin which can lead to broken blood vessels and permanent sun damage.  Be sure to protect yourself with at least SPF 30 or higher.  Try SkinMedica’s Daily Physical Block SPF 30 or Fresh Canvas SPF 30.

Don’t: Use harsh skin care.  Certain products such as harsh scrubs or astringents will strip the skin of its natural oils which in turn will cause dryness and redness in the skin’s surface.  When it comes to cleansing, less is more.

Do: Moisturize regularly.  Redness prone skin needs to have a constant barrier from the elements.  Moisturize morning and night with a gentle, fragrance free moisturizer such as SkinMedica Redness Relief or Vivite’ Replenish Hydrating Cream.

Don’t: Use products with added fragrances or perfumes.  Even products with natural scents such as peppermint or eucalyptus can inflame sensitive skin.  It’s hard to know how your skin will react to any one product, so try doing a patch test behind your ear, wait 20 to 30 minutes.  If you experience no redness, burning or stinging you should be good to go.

These are just a few tips and tricks for getting, and keeping, the red out.  For more details you can schedule a complimentary consultation with our medical aesthetician and hear more about your custom skin care regimen, one of our redness reducing facials, or redness reducing laser treatments.
