This Labor Day Weekend, I spoke, chaired a session, and attended a combined core cosmetic specialty medical conference with dermatologists, plastic surgeons and facial plastic surgeons in Barcelona known as the 5 Continent Congress or 5CC. My eyes were opened to new possibilities, experiences, opportunities, and adventures. For 3 days, I felt like I was back in my dermatology residency training program, learning new filler, botox, thread, kybella, ultrasound and laser techniques from physicians based in China, Thailand, Russia, the UK and more. I broke bread with thought and industry leaders in their fields from across the globe and am inspired by my interactions to invest in new technologies and techniques that will provide Las Vegas Dermatology’s patients with a Healthier & More Beautiful Life.
As part of this European trip, I decided to explore my ancestry and I visited my Grandfather’s hometown of Warsaw, Poland. Since I was already in Poland, I also took the time to visit the birthplace of Polish Democracy post-Soviet imposed communism in Gdańsk, Poland. Both Warsaw and Gdansk were destroyed in World War II – I saw the photos at the various museums and spaces themselves, these cities were decimated. Lech Walęsa, an electrician working in the Polish shipyard of Gdańsk demanded better rights for the shipyard workers of Solidarity and in doing so paved the way for democracy in a Poland destroyed by the Nazis and ruled by the Communists. Walęsa stood up for himself and his beliefs when the penalty for doing so had been death or imprisonment. Having seen first-hand what Poland has gone through since the end of the Second World War, I am amazed by how 2 cities and the country as a whole have both rebuilt themselves into thriving, welcoming and glorious cities despite the worst of circumstances.
We have it really good here in Las Vegas- there’s a lot to do, the city is growing, people are energetic, food amazing and life is relatively easy. The only war we have lost was our Las Vegas Golden Knights defeat last year to the Washington Capitals in the Stanley Cup Finals – though painful, it is a tragedy that we will all overcome. Rosh Ha Shana, the Jewish New Year was celebrated on September 10th. Tradition has it that apples and honey are served for a “Sweet New Year”. Now is the time for new beginnings.
