Fighting Eczema

Desert living can exacerbate your eczema. Learn more about how it can be treated at Las Vegas Dermatology®.

Eczema is a common and prevalent skin condition exacerbated by the dry environs of desert life in the Las Vegas valley. Dry cracked skin becomes itchy eczematous skin when not properly treated. Even if you do everything right with proper moisturization, and skin product choices, it is still possible to have your eczema flare. When your skin becomes difficult to manage, the experts at Las Vegas Dermatology® have topical, oral and injectable therapies that can improve your condition. In most cases, eczema is not a curable condition, but it can be well controlled.

Although most cases of eczema are inherited, there may be an alternative underlying cause to your skin condition that may require blood work or patch testing looking for potential allergies. These types of rashes can be triggered when something that you are allergic to touches your skin. This is called allergic contact dermatitis. A classic example of allergic contact dermatitis is caused by poison ivy, wherein an itchy rash arises on areas of skin that brushed against the rash-provoking plant a few days after hiking. Many things, not just poison ivy, can cause skin irritation (rashes) such as preservatives, metals, fragrances, dyes, and other inactive ingredients in skin care products, shoes, and clothing. At Las Vegas Dermatology®, we perform comprehensive patch testing to identify potential allergens that could be causing our patient’s rash.
