acnetreatment

Last week I was asked to be a speaker at the Vegas Cosmetic Surgery meeting this June at the Bellagio hotel lecturing on, “10 Tips for the Treatment of Acne.”  Acne is a skin condition that involves the sebaceous glands of the skin, which become inflamed, purulent, infected and blocked.  Most of the time, acne seems to be nature’s cruel joke on our most vulnerable or stressed out.  Every teenager’s right of passage includes some form of acne, as if being a teen weren’t difficult enough.  College students might get acne during exam times, women during their menses, and many athletes get it when they don’t clean their skin post working out.

You don’t have to accept that pimple, papule, black head, cyst or boil growing on your skin.  Options for acne treatment are plentiful, and it will be hard for me to pick just 10 treatment tips when I lecture to my colleagues in June.  In the dermatology clinic, the acne I see can be quite severe, sometimes involving the super-drug of acne therapy, “Accutane”.  I often use a syringe to inject or a blade to incise and drain painful acne cysts or boils.  Antibiotics, retinoid, and benzoyl peroxide products round out some of the medical acne treatment options I employ at Las Vegas Dermatology.

For the upcoming multispecialty talk (attended by dermatologists, plastic surgeons, ENT & Facial plastics), my #1 tip will be to wash acne prone areas, but medicating and moisturizing are a close #2 & #3 in terms of acne treatment tips.  At Las Vegas Dermatology we sell the Clarisonic brush, which I personally use to wash my face in the morning with a foaming cleanser.  Our aestheticians, Autumn and Melanie, are available to work with you to review your skin care product regimen.  When you’ve graduated from products, consider a facial, blue light therapy, microdermabrasion or chemical peel therapy for acne treatment or prevention.  In the past 2 months I’ve had 3 chemical peels, in addition to my usual skin care regimen, and my skin has never felt as glowing, and acne free.
