Microneedling procedures are fantastic, minimally invasive options for improving your appearance. By making controlled micro-injuries to the skin, a microneedling procedure will theoretically help stimulate the body’s own wound care system to produce more collagen and ultimately improve the appearance of treated skin. At Las Vegas Dermatology we are using the Dermapen for our microneedling therapies to treat fine wrinkles, scars, stretch marks and texture irregularity.

Most microneedling procedures require 45 minutes of topical numbing therapy prior to treatment. The Dermapen treatment time varies based upon the treatment area, with most treatments lasting 15-20minutes. Each Dermapen can be adjusted from 0.5 to 2.5mm in depth to treat various scarred or otherwise damaged areas. One treatment will not be enough to give you the results you desire, so be prepared for a series of treatments spaced a few weeks or months apart for a modest improvement with a short period of downtime (one and a half days of redness). A fractional carbon dioxide laser would provide better results than a microneedling procedure for fine wrinkles, but the downtime would be seven days of redness, and the cost at least 5 times as much. With microneedling, expected downtime is one to two days’ time, but may last longer; you should also expect a slight stinging or burning feeling and increased facial redness post procedure.

In order to maintain results in the interim, an at home regimen consisting of a dermal roller with a 0.2mm in depth needle and great topical skin care with various growth factor serums and creams will help you to achieve maximal skin health results. Ask our cosmetic dermatology team about designing a custom skin care plan, which is the best for your skin.

Adjunctive therapy with fillers or lasers may be necessary to achieve maximal results. A proper evaluation with our team of skin care experts is necessary so that you can get started on your journey toward a healthier & more beautiful life, be it with a microneedling treatment regimen or other service. Confused on which sunscreen to buy? There are two different types of sunscreens: physical and chemical. Physical sunscreens are made up of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Physical screens work by blocking the sun’s rays from the skin. Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing the sun’s rays altering the character of the screen. You should wait 20 minutes after applying your sunscreen before going out in the sun with a chemical sunscreen, allowing the screen time to absorb. Always apply sunscreen prior to being outdoors, and re-apply if you will be outside for longer than 2 hours or if you go swimming. ... See MoreSee Less
