Photodynamic Light Therapy

BLU-U® Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy

Using light to treat skin disease is a unique feature to the Las Vegas Dermatology clinic. Now is the time to manage your skin damage. Actinic keratoses (AKs) are those rough-textured, dry, scaly patches on the skin that can lead to skin cancer if left untreated. Frequent skin examinations and consultations are the keys to early detection and prevention.

Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy Illuminator (Levulan PDT) is indicated for the treatment of minimally to moderately thick actinic keratosis of the face or scalp. It is important to treat AKs because there is no way to tell when or which lesions will progress to squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the second most common form of skin cancer. Levulan Kerastick® (aminolevulinic acid HCl) Topical Solution, 20% (Levulan Kerastick) plus blue light illumination using the BLU-U® is the special treatment modality for AK’s that we use at Las Vegas Dermatology.

The 2-part PDT treatment at Las Vegas Dermatology offers the following conveniences:

  • No prescription to fill
  • No daily medication to remember
  • Treatment administration in our medical facility by a qualified healthcare professional

Levulan PDT fits in with your busy lifestyle:

  • 2 hour in-office appointment
  • Minimal downtime*
  • High ratings for cosmetic response
  • No scarring reported to date

*Patients treated with Levulan PDT should avoid exposure of photosensitized lesions to sunlight or prolonged or intense light for at least 40 hours.

An Innovative Way to Control Moderate Acne without antibiotics or home care is with BLU-U® Blue Light Therapy both with and without Photodynamic Therapy.

Acne is not exclusive to teenagers; many young adults, people in their 20’s and 30’s, and others have trouble with acne that is hard to control. There are many acne treatments out there for you to try, and it can be overwhelming trying to decide which regimen is right for your skin. If you have moderate acne and are uncomfortable taking antibiotics or are unhappy with your current topical treatment results, BLU-U® blue light therapy – using light treatment without drugs or antibiotics – may be something for you to try. Treatments can be performed with or without Levulan.

Ask the Las Vegas Dermatology team if Levulan PDT is right for your specific skin condition!

Confused on which sunscreen to buy? There are two different types of sunscreens: physical and chemical. Physical sunscreens are made up of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Physical screens work by blocking the sun’s rays from the skin. Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing the sun’s rays altering the character of the screen. You should wait 20 minutes after applying your sunscreen before going out in the sun with a chemical sunscreen, allowing the screen time to absorb. Always apply sunscreen prior to being outdoors, and re-apply if you will be outside for longer than 2 hours or if you go swimming. ... See MoreSee Less
